2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time - January 17, 2021

Dear friends,

Today’s the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. Christmas is behind us, yet Christmas is our every day’s life. Once again, we are reminded that Jesus is the source of our life. Finding Him, following Him and staying with Him is the culmination of our Christian life.

Saint Paul points out the truth that there is no half-way of following Jesus. We are invited to abandon our old way of life and embrace Jesus Christ. We will demonstrate our identity through and by the fruits we bear in our daily life. Paul invites us to die in ourselves, and let Jesus be our true life. We hear a call to abide with the Lord as we remember that we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. Keeping the sacredness of our body and mind, the whole person, is an expression of our hunger to be with the Lord.

Nevertheless, while longing for personal communion with the Lord and letting Him and His Father establish their dwelling with us starts with the recognition of our brokenness. This attitude makes us rely solely on God and His power. This way, we can make ours the following words of Saint Paul: That when we are weak, that is when we are strong because the power of God is manifest in our weakness. All, we are invited to imitate Christ, and our true imitation will take shape only when we try to let ourselves be transformed into Christ. This is even the true meaning of our name: Christian; that we are the image of Christ for one another and for the world. To put in the words of Hildebrand, “the more a man becomes ‘another Christ,’ the more he realizes the original unduplicable thought of God which he embodies.”

As we strive to be Christlike to every individual who happens to encounter us, let us continue to pray for one another and for our parish family.

Saint Joseph, pray for us!
